I know you've made it before but Nirvana was way more focused on melody and harmony than Soundgarden, who were sort of the prog rock band of the scene (which is no diss).
Responses:
SG contained a good helping of metal/Black Sabbath, something that's not at all part of Nirvana's sound -- nm
