Chris Carter sucks at writing. Vince Gilligan is decent (and, as evidenced by Breaking Bad, capable of extreme awesomeness), but I got the feeling that his contributions were downplayed and/or rejected.

The whole movie was terrible, and the only reason I say that there's a connection to Fringe is because of the whole Frankenstein aspect of it which seems highly compatible with Fringe's universe.

Yep, I just checked on IMDb: Carter and Spotnitz wrote it, and the only reference to Gilligan was the joke entry in Mulder's cell phone list. That's why it sucked.
