So who throws a Sauerkraut Festival with no local, home-made sauerkraut?

Waynesville, Ohio, that's who. Only one booth was selling "bulk" sauerkraut. We asked who made it. Silver Floss. There were several booths with sauerkraut related food (sauerkraut balls, sauerkraut rolls, sauerkraut rye bread, sauerkraut with many different kinds of meat, sauerkraut pizza, sauerkraut fudge) but as far as we could tell (from those we asked) it was all store-bought. Disappointing.

Apparently, this is now mainly a crafts fair with a loose theme. The main street was lined on both sides with booths that must have stretched over a mile, with booths going off some side streets. It's just a 2 lane street so it was *very* crowded. And it got up to the mid-80s and there was no shade on the street so it got hot pretty fast. They say they get over 350,000 people attending over 2 days. I can believe it. We only had some sauerkraut balls because the other food was pretty much typical festival food. After 4 years here I think I'm nearly festivaled out. They're finally all starting to look the same.
