I am pro-choice, but I have a problem with this

Responses:
do you think a couple should have the option to abort a fetus that has down's, if the mother is carrying it herself?

I guess my problem is that this couple has put so much into getting a child

sorry, but i think that's an ignorant pov. i'm sure their decision was far, far more complex and agonizing than this. -- nm

i would have had a screening test on friday. i was petrified that something terrible would come up and we'd have to make an agonizing decision

All the more reason not to pass judgement.

because of the surrogacy? somewhat. far less so if it was not the surrogate's, biologically.

no, because of the issue of "aborting because of defect".

So folks might support a woman's right to chose abortion for no reason, but not for that reason? -- nm

supporting someone's right to choose does not mean you have support their reasons for choosing. -- nm

So, you think the couple should be forced to raise the child? -- nm

If you want to get legal about it, yes. They signed an agreement -- nm

"Under the agreement the trio signed, the surrogates choice would mean absolving the couple of any responsibility for raising the child." -- nm

I am curious as to the allowed causes for this to be in effect, or could the couple just change their mind for no reason? -- nm

I don't think that's what he's saying. Being pro-choice is being pro-your-choice for your body. Telling/asking someone else to get an abortion

Not any more than I think the woman should be forced to have an abortion. If nothing else it should be set up so that the kid can be put up
