So today we had a small presentation on the health care reform. Wow, we are screwed.

Hospitals will get lower reimbursements. Govt reimbursement is already so low that Mayo clinic stopped (or will stop) accepting those patients. If Mayo can't do it...

Illegal immigrants will not be required to get health insurances, so hospitals that work with those will get double screwed. (Those with insurances will go to better community hospitals, so the county hospitals will be left with more uninsured people).

More primary care docs will be made by having more primary care residency spots. Which sounds great but is dumb since hundreds of primary care spots go unfilled every year. Hence more incentive is needed, not spots.

Insurance will be sold in 5 tiers. The lowest tier will cover 60% of your bills. That is nice and all.. but if you get a $10k bill from the ER as my friend did, then you will still owe $4k. Assuming that the cheapest insurance will be bought by those that don't have much money... how will they pay the 40%?

There are of course a number of pluses. Those are nice.
