In response to "Hey y'all...heard varying discussions on the pricyness of SanFran....if you've been, how would you rank it 1-10 on pricy scale" by Will Hunting

It's like any other big city, expensive food and hotels and cheap food and hotels. For the last 18 months, there have been incredible hotel deals

there through Travelzoo and Expedia, all of the major websites. I would head over to Berkeley and check it out if you go and if you want one really special dinner in the Napa, go to the CIA. The pictures don't do it justice. It's the old Christian Brothers winery building in St Helena and it looks like a monastery or castle. All stone, it's very beautiful and romantic, with all of the famous chefs of tomorrow cooking for you.

Parking is the most expensive thing in SF. It has great mass transit compared to other CA cities, you don't need a car to get around in the city. If you want to go to Napa or Marin, get a car for the day and then get rid of it, parking at a hotel will be about $50/day. I stay in Berkeley most of the time now, it's more convenient for what I'm there for, this place is nice, but not fancy, with free parking. Usually expensive though. http://doubletree1.hilton.com/en_US/dt/hotel/JBKCADT-Doubletree-Hotel-Executive-Meeting-Center-Berkeley-Marina-California/index.do This place is incredible and recently restored. They've been having specials, although not the last time I was there. It was around $140 a month ago, but $219 last weekend. http://www.claremontresort.com/

There's nothing like walking around SF at night and riding the cable cars though. This hotel has been having some good deals too, even though it looks expensive. It is in a great location, right by Union Square and on the cable car route. The doormen are dressed as Beefeaters like at the Tower of London and the Starlite room at the top of the hotel is a throwback to the 40's, big band and big pink booths. http://www.sirfrancisdrake.com/

If you are going to stay somewhere inexpensive, check out the bedbug reports.

Go over to the Ferry Building, it's across from the Embarcadero, it's full of food marts with lots of free samples, especially if you go on farmer's market day, which I think is Tuesday, check to make sure. Don't miss Alcatraz. Chinatown and North Beach are great for walking around too.

If you guys want more info, let me know.
