9, one of the priciest places in the US. I'm not a fan of SF so maybe I'm biased that it's too pricy.

I lived there over a year, didn't like it. I've lived all over the US and SF was my 2nd least favorite place to live. The cost of living is crazy high. I live in Silicon Valley, which seems inexpensive by comparison.
It's cool to visit, and the friends that I've taken there when I play tour guide had a good time, but there are so many better places in Northern California to visit(Yosemite, Sea Ranch, Sonoma Valley, Monterey, etc.) Fisherman's Wharf is like a lame mall. Some of the ethnic neighborhoods are nice to visit, the Haight and Castro mostly.
Be careful about staying in a cheap hotel, there are some bad parts of the city.
