One thing The Event did right. (spoilers)

Is something they also did wrong the previous episode. The kidnapped girl escapes, disarms her would-be executioner, takes the gun, and flees. When said executioner chases after her, she shoots her(or at least thinks she does).
The previous episode, Sean made a mistake in a similar situation. Detained in a police station, some guys show up claiming to be feds, and start shooting up the place. It gets to where Sean, the officer who arrested him, and one of the fake(?) feds are the only people left. Sean incapacitates the guy trying to kill him. Then he runs off without taking the few extra seconds needed to grab the gun. But he did take the time to get the guy's keys. And, if he were actually as smart as they want us to believe, he would have at least given the guy a wound that would make it harder for him to follow. Maybe give him what Special Agent Alan Seitz called an extremities shot. But he did nothing and the guy was able to quickly retrieve his gun and catch up to Sean and the policewoman.
Just a tip for any fictional characters who are being pursued by people trying to kill them. If you disarm someone trying to kill you, get their weapon. Then use said weapon to hinder their pursuit of you as much as possible. Sure, getting rid of the bad guy doesn't help the story, but that isn't your concern. Your concern is staying alive, not doing your best to ensure there is life-threatening drama. Plus, being stupid doesn't serve the story well and the guns are probably filled with blanks (totally ripping off Die Hard 2).
Yes, I really hate the "bad guy is able to catch up to me and try and kill me because I didn't do anything to stop him from doing so after I got an advantage much better than Obi-Wan's high ground advantage over Anakin" plot device. So much so that a TwoP recapper would almost be envious of my verbosity on the subject.
