on one level, it felt like the obvious and cliched story choice. it's the thing that Roger would (and did) do. Don is supposed to be smarter, if not better, than Roger. Although, as we saw in the earlier flashback about how Don got hired, that foundation is shaky itself.
on another level, it makes sense. compared to Faye, Megan is obviously maternal and great with Don's kids. the shock they all register when Sally spills the milkshake (on Megan's dress even) and she has the anti-Betty reaction to it all. and Don is obviously still Dick Whitman beneath the surface -- the emotionally retarded man child who breaks through Don Draper's cool polished exterior at times (you can always tell it's Dick by the crazy eyes and goofy smile).
i think it's a bad idea in the long run, for Dick to lose or integrate Don's other self into a whole personality. but i can see why he thought in that moment that it was the right move to make
i want to see how Faye handles the fallout, especially knowing what she knows about Don/Dick
