The german word for jewel is schmuck (which with a yiddish style wit was turned into an ultimate insult, he's such a jewel)

and back in my lapidary hobby days I thought of a mail order style jewelry biz with the tag line of Now you know a schmuck in the diamond biz. and talk about the 4th "C" beyond cut clarity and carat, there's the whole con job of inflated value, I mean jewelry stores are always on the most expensive corner of a mall or downtown, and they pay a retired cop to sit there and pretend to be an armed guard (but with strict orders not to shoot anybody) so how many diamonds do they need to sell to cover the overhead alone?
my idea was to only show cubic zircon replicas of the diamond inventory, keep the real goods in a safe deposit box, a $5k ring could cost as little as 1-1.5k
btw those cubic zurcon rings qvc sells for 50-100? real cost? a buck for the stone, 3-4 for the silver ring. at the wholesale shows they give them away as gifts like the chocolate kisses.
