To your IM, I think it really does make a difference.

There's a large generation of people (as a sixty-something, the man in question is in it) that have had their beliefs challanged pretty aggressively over time, often forcing them to accept something they don't want to.
I'm cool with that.
But once the changes are in place and society is moving in the right direction, I don't think we have to continually beat them up on it if they aren't out there trying to change the policy. It's like how everyone knew Grandma was a little racist, but we just ignored her.
If the issues isn't live or has prospects of re-emerging, let it go, I say.
