nobody would build Notre Dame the way they did then if they were starting from scratch today

materials, methods, and aesthetics would all make it distinctly a 21st century construction
just as the Bilbao or Disney Concert Hall would not look like Ghery's vision if they had been built in the sixteenth or eighteenth centuries
