my oldest sister had a below-knee amputation last week. no doubt in my mind that it would have saved *so* much time and money (and pain and stress and and and - also, not just for her) if she had it done when it was first advised, a number of years, and a number of hospitalizations and rounds of home care and more and more and more, ago.

(aside: I know, but seeing jokes about it still sucks.)
