just put some fins on, that'll make you go faster and that'll keep you in the swim of things, you use a lot more and lot different muscles swimming...

the fins just put a larger percentage on your legs where it belongs, otherwise swimming is sorta like climbing a rope, most of the effort is in your arms to pull you forward and your feet hardly do more than keep the water from using your knees to slow you down. its how long and how hard your swim not how many laps so it doesn't matter if you cheat
