Hawaii trips are pretty cheap this time of year, except for Thanksgiving week and starting the week before Christmas. New Orleans is great this time

of year, also. You can stay in the French Quarter* at half the price you'd pay from February through August and the weather is much nicer. The restaurants and shops are back and you can probably get Saints tickets if they're playing when you're there. Note: New Orleans is tied for my favorite city with Vancouver, BC.
*Stay in the French Quarter at the International or the St. Anne Marie, one of the smaller antique hotels. You can get fantastic deals at them during the off season. I stayed at the Anne Marie, it was 200 years old, had a hidden courtyard with a beautifully landscaped pool, it's one block off Bourbon Street and 2 blocks off Royal (with all the amazing antique shops)you get a wonderful little breakfast and the whole place is furnished with period antiques. I got a deal for $99/night in May. Rack prices start at $199/night.
p.s. You never never never want to stay right on Bourbon st. Trust me.
