In no way was I justifying her comments or choice of target, nor was I offering any opinion on the relative merits of NPR's handling of that matter versus this one.

The entire point of my argument was that there is a difference of character between comments directed at a person based on individual opinions, and those directed towards a group based on racial bigotry. And as such I could see how an organization would treat those situations differently, independently of content.
