You won't care, but this is an IM I'm currently engaged in with an unhappy library customer.

[09:41] meeboguest953756: ABOUT website building.
[09:41] askevpl: ok
[09:42] askevpl: can we help you find the book?
[09:43] meeboguest953756: Any way, I tried to print the page I was lookng at (to save all the info) but the print looked nothing like the web page I was looking at!
[09:43] meeboguest953756: It was missing A LOT of iformation!
[09:43] askevpl: printing from websites can be tricky. you might want to use print preview, or just print selected text
[09:43] meeboguest953756: Can you duplicate my steps?
[09:44] askevpl: to try to print it?
[09:44] meeboguest953756: Look at the web page and COMPARE the print preview!
[09:45] askevpl: why?
[09:46] meeboguest953756: So you can see how much info shown on the web page that will NOT PRINT!
[09:46] askevpl: oh, i believe you. that's why i said printing from web pages can be tricky.
[09:47] askevpl: the catalog is not realy meant to produce printable pages, especially Encore. the classic catalog probably does better.
[09:47] meeboguest953756: For instance, the location of North Park (where a copy of the book is supposedly located) does NOT print!.
[09:47] meeboguest953756: The entire title does not even print!
[09:47] askevpl: it might not if you don't select text first, or if you're in Encore rather than the classic catalog. it's not really meant to show printable pages.
[09:47] meeboguest953756: The ISBN numbe rdoes NOT print!
[09:48] meeboguest953756: People want to rpint to carry information with them, especially when it is a catalog page from the library!
[09:49] askevpl: in that case, you might want to try a coupleo f things. one is to put it in your cart first. another is to click on the link to get to the classic catalog. then select text to print.
[09:51] meeboguest953756: You know something? When somebody wants to print a page in WIndows (which i supposed to be WYSIWYG or "what you see is what you get"), they want a PHOTOGRAGH of what was displayed on the screen!
[09:51] askevpl: unfortunately, it doesn't always work that way.
[09:51] meeboguest953756: Every little detail should be captured as though the printer was a camera!
[09:52] askevpl: you can do that, too, using "print screen," but then you end up with an image. image printing takes a lot more ink
[09:52] meeboguest953756: NOT when you have a laser printer, as I do! (But is is only black toner).
[09:53] askevpl: so you might prefer printing it as an image, thne. you press the "prnt scrn" key, then paste into your image editor (like Paint)
[09:54] meeboguest953756: The print routine in the browser should exactly the same thing, NOT leaving out details LIKE THE TITLE AND THE LOCATION of a book!
[09:54] askevpl: in that case, you'll want to either select text and print that, or go to the classic catalog, or put the record into your cart and email or print from there.
[09:56] askevpl: the next time you go to the library, they'll be happy to show you.
[09:58] Meebo Message: meeboguest953756 is online
[09:58] meeboguest953756: Why not just REPLORT THE PROBLEM to employees like yourself, who, HOPEFULLY will not make excuses, but simply take steps to permanently resolve the problem for everyone from then on, instead of being RESISTANT to doing the right thingf?
[09:59] askevpl: i'll be glad to tell our webmaster that you're not happy with the way catalog records print, but first you need to confirm for me whether you were in Encore or the classic catalog. did you do your search from the library's homepage -- the small search box at upper left?

[to be continued}
