it's one thing to have corporate profits up, stocks rebounding and all the big tarp folks paying $ back since the govt backing helped...

these previously inefficient firms gain market share. it's another thing entirely when u6 unemployment is pushing 18%, home prices aren't rising like they used to and associated costs are inflating in areas like education and health care. there isn't really one economy, and the difference between what's happening on wall st and what's happening on main st is fairly stark. i'm not at all sure that's entirely a messaging problem (though the democrats are generally pretty lousy at that, for sure).
