sends the boyfriend to check on things at the house she owns with her ex? It isn't his business.

And I'd be pretty damn pissed if he was nibbing in where he didn't belong.

If I had to guess, I'd say the ex has tried to move on and she keeps looking for ways to turn the screws.

"My boyfriend doesn't approve of the work being done by the contractor *you* hired..."

"Ha! I'm happy, too! I'm getting married! Take that!"
