I agree in general that it's great that Google believes in creation just for the sake of creation.

Kim and I were recently having a conversation about Facebook possibly overtaking Google in the minds of consumers and that was the first time I had ever allowed for the possibility of Google not being top dog on the internet. This reminded me of the comments from MySpace that anyone suggesting that Facebook, who had 3% of the market share at the time, could overtake them was loco. And it also reminded me of Ted Turner personally losing about seven billion dollars because he thought that AOL would always be the top site on the internet.

Every year or so, I will see a variation of the same joke, that a popular counter-culture inevitably becomes the culture. You saw it with grunge, vampires and early internet web sites. This is how the process works and maybe Google is not as invincible as we have always perceived them to be.

This is unfortunate because I (unlike Hyde) do believe them when they say that they try hard not to be evil.
