Little bit of sadness in our household today.

Yesterday, my wife's half-brother succumbed to the colon cancer that was supposed to get him early in the new year, but decided to take him quicker. She wasn't hugely close with him, but still close enough that it hurts. His wife and he came out here for our wedding in September, and it was obvious to all that this was a final visit, but still the family hoped. (I'm glad I got the opportunity to meet him at least that once.)

KD feels really awful though in that their father is currently travelling cross-country from Ottawa to Calgary in order to see him, not knowing the news and unable to be reached as he's not one to check in when driving long trips like this. Basically, the family is calling his regular hotels/motels, hoping to find him along the way, but he has no idea that his eldest won't be there to say goodbye when he arrives.

That thought kills me too.
