Mel REB2, I'm hopeful that things are now corrected so that only qualified people will get mortgages, and the write-off doesn't play in.

My concern in getting rid of the write-off is that
1. The demand for housing is already slack. Demand would drop if the write-off went aways. That would include people who can afford to buy, but choose not to because the write off was an encticement.
2. While I agree that prices will settle, I believe this will cause prices to settle lower. How much, i don't know...but it would cause more people to lose money on their home, be upside down, etc, so forth, repeat and rinse.
