I do think it was the easy answer. I do think it allowed some to set up the conflict as the West vs. Islam but I do absolutely think the Jihadists hate us for our freedoms (as well as about 200 years of really abusive foreign policy from the West).

Just because it's used as an easy excuse and fuel for bad counter actions doesn't make it untrue however.
