No...I think part of it is that they hate us for having an open society plain and simple.

I've had some very illuminating conversations from people originally in the Middle East over the years. Those conversations showed me that at least those people involved didn't understand that majority rule wasn't absolute for example. That a distasteful minority opinion had a space in the discussion...of course I've been disappointed by my country regarding this idea lately so.
I've had other conversations that raised internal eyebrows as well. There is something there.
