They'd have no reason to act if we weren't over there. The fact that we wouldn't be Muslims wouldn't enter into it.

You can't sell someone on dying for that. They're dying to defend Islam. If Islam isn't "under attack" by us, what would they be fighting? Consider that OBL's stated reason for jihad is that the US had troops in Saudi Arabia.
