If it's not one pet it's another. Three of our cats are in varying stages of ill health

Gypsy (2 or 3 years old) is the one we nearly euthanized. It appears she likely has an autoimmune disorder. Currently she's on a high dose of prednisone. If she has to maintain this dose to fight the autoimmune issue, then it's likely she'll end up with a trashed liver. No time frame on how long she can go if we can stabilize her on a low maintenance dose of the pred.

Gwen (10 or 12 years old) seems to be fine but was having issues earlier this year. No idea if she'll relapse or keep plugging along, but for now she's okay.

Tinker (15 or so years old) is losing weight. 4 ounces over the last month which is a lot when you only weigh 9 pounds. His kidney tests came back poor and his symptoms indicate his kidneys are 3/4 non-functional. There is no course of treatment for kidney failure. Simply change his diet and monitor. So we're very likely going to lose him soon. Soon being relative.

We named him after Tinker Dill from the Lovejoy series. When we got him he was chocolate brown, had an abscess the size of a golfball on his neck and was malnourished. He recovered, is a lustrous black and is one of the most grateful cats I've ever known. He knows he almost died and has appreciated every day of the 14 years we've had him.

It's really going to be a sucky holiday season, especially if they all go down hill.
