I hesitated, and then started, and then hesitated again to make this post, because I recognize the potential backlash that can come, but I guess my curiosity is going to get the better of me here...
To lay some groundwork:
I don't think gay men, or women, are any more predisposed to inappropriate behavior than straight men or women.
I don't know who this group is, but am fairly certain that if I took a minute to research it i'd want no part of it.
The use of Barney Frank and Ellen in their statement is without question pandering to anti-gay sentiments...
and yet I find the question one with some merit.
In a society where sex, gender, and sexuality are not mutually exclusive is this question, on its face, abhorrent, because it is seen as relying on false assumption that gay people can't control their urges, or is there something else that i'm not seeing?
Isn't the fact that men can't search women, and visa versa, based on the same false assumption that straight people couldn't control their urges? Or is it based on the searchees' comfort level? And isn't what is good for the goose also good for the gander? In other words, wouldn't saying gay men can't search men be treating them exactly as we do by not allowing men to search women?
I don't see how such a prohibition would work, and can certainly see how it may(would?) cause serious issues, but I think the question itself is an interesting one.
