In response to "my favorite neighbor died to be thin. Had the bypass (cause her daughter did) but was never the same, had issues for a year and died of complications -- nm" by zeitgeist

According to the doc the current mortality for bypass is 2 - 4 per 1000.

Lap band is 1 per 1000.

Which is supposedly super safe compared to other surgeries.

In Medicare patients (less healthy population) the mortality is 3.9% for those younger than 65 and 11% for those older than 65%

I saw a study that said that lap band was not advised.. I may e-mail the surgeon and ask him what he things about that study.
