That's a *very* important aspect of it, but as they say, "He's a every five days player in an every day game."

With the owner's death last month and the team likely 4th or 5th next year, how do you not move him for value and pieces? The team getting him would get two seasons, so the value is super high.
They might be hoping that Toronto folks disappointed with how Mats Sundin screwed the Leafs over last season (not waving a No-Trade, which meant they could trade him for prospects), that Jays fans will be smart enough to see what they are doing.
