I thought the point that had people all in a tizzy was that Axelrod said that Obama talked to the Governor about it and then Obama said he didn't and

Axelrod retracted his earlier comment. Personally I think that reflected Axelrod's orignally using Obama in the universal sense (meaning his organization had communicated Obama's opinions to the governor's staff or the governor) and it became necessary to retract once the governor's actions became known.
