We never encountered "hidden" fees. Maybe they went to Atlantis but stayed in a neighboring hotel?

There are two right next door. If you are at a neighboring hotel then you don't get access to the water park area or the aquarium without paying for a wristband.
We never had issues with dirty or damaged rooms, though they were renovating the floor above us the last time we were there so there was some noise from that.
We're going back next year and I can give you a current report, if you like, once we get back
