I would expect to see this in a comedy/satire movie or show but not in real life. Local newscaster here in NC talking about Elizabeth Edwards' passing

just after Pres. Obama released his statement.
On camera there were two anchors, weatherguy, and sportsguy. After the male anchor reads the President's statement, the female anchor, Pam Saulsby, starts saying "There are many heavy hearts tonight but we have to go on." and paused trying to find the words to say after that and then said "So we go on with sports."
Sports guy, looking totally flummoxed, starts in with "Well, we're going to talk about Duke basketball..."
