In response to "Getting back to Reynolds, I just don't see how he's enough of an improvement over Josh Bell to get rid of David Hernandez." by Inigo

Reynolds was brought in for some much needed power.

I doubt Reynolds is as bad as Atkins. Atkins was a cheap risk, hoping for a bounce back season. One that I think was made due to lack of other options. He had also been on a steady decline for the 3 years previous, since his career highs. And he didn't really have any positives when the O's brought him in. Reynolds has power, sees a lot of pitches, and is near the top in some sabermetric stats (secondary average, ab/hr, bb/pa, and I think gb/fb ratio). And that was last year, a pretty bad year for him.

What remains to be seen is if last year was an aberration (due to playing through injuries as he thinks, or other factors) or the first year of a downward trend.
