The CDC stuff never happened in the graphic novel. People were debating whether or not it was worth doing in the show (they felt it dragged a bit), and they were speculating about what Dr Jenner whispered to Rick Grimes at the end.
I think it was well worth doing, and I thought the Jenner character was fabulous.
