I think what Chase was doing at camp was to try to make sure that Jane knew that it wasn't his idea to vote her out to play for her jury vote. It didn't work but it wasn't a crazy play. And he was actively lobbying to keep her because he knew having her in the final four (compared to Fabio or Dan) was the best thing for him.
