can I just buy a usb 802.11 dongle and plug it in to the xbox? will there be lots of lag? -- nm

Is it a new Xbox? If it is, then it has the WiFi built in. You don't need the additional anymore. -- nm

You don't have to run it wireless, you can run an ethernet cord from a hub or a desktop/laptop. -- nm
