I felt that way too, but I also got from it that his dad was trying to convince himself that it wasn't his fault. That he hadn't done something wrong

that caused him to "become" gay. It was awful and it doesn't excuse it at all, but I think he feels guilty about it, like he failed as a parent somehow. If he would just stop being gay, then it wouldn't be his dad's fault anymore.
