i had gay friends, goth friends, you name it. my dad, who grew up in a seriously rural area on a farm (with no electricity) was a little confused but never said a word. even now, my brother and i are both living with people, no marriage plans, my brother quit his great job to learn photography, etc, they say nothing.
anecdote: one time my parents came home from a weekend away to find my friend Andrew, *ironing* our other friend Paul's hair into a mohawk, in their kitchen, and i wasn't even there (i was driving someone else to work.)
they never said a word.
which isn't too say they were wildly permissive. we had to have jobs. we were expected to get good grades. University was assumed. they just didn't freak over that other kind of stuff.
