Yes and no. The VLC app for the iPad does not support streaming (perhaps another client might work) not sure what the state of Android is there

They seem to have an android app for sharing media but not consuming and no iOS app (at least from them) -- nm

Interesting idea. All my media is currently on a 250GB USB drive (I also have a FreeAgent but it's smaller, only 60GB I think)

if i understand write, you dont have to use a freeagent drive, any usb drive (so therefore an exteneral usb 1tb drive maybe) would work.
