Yes and no. The VLC app for the iPad does not support streaming (perhaps another client might work) not sure what the state of Android is there - kilbowl full of jelly Dec 23, 12:30 13

        Interesting idea. All my media is currently on a 250GB USB drive (I also have a FreeAgent but it's smaller, only 60GB I think) - kilbowl full of jelly Dec 23, 13:00 4
        
        if i understand write, you dont have to use a freeagent drive, any usb drive (so therefore an exteneral usb 1tb drive maybe) would work. - tRuMaN Dec 23, 13:02 3
