generally a service business that bills for parts and labor works on a 2.5 - 3x mark up to cover expenses like overhead and marketing so he'd have to gross 625K.
of course some of that could be managing a half dozen employees too which is doable. (and it sounds like that is what he works as/for now) we have a biz in the area that advertise constantly, stop freakn, call beacon, but that's a big expense and they are being investigated for sending out unqualified 'apprentisses' and trainees instead of journeymen and charging the highest rates when its an emergency, like a big pipe of sewage is filling the basement, their take it leave it now rate is like 5x what a low overhead place would charge.
