You also have the issue of days vs hours. One type of time off is tracked in hours and the other in days.

I know that sounds really stupid, but there are payroll systems which require you to enter certain categories of things as one or the other.

Thus if you tell the system you are taking the day, Monday off, then the system will not allow you to be paid for any hours within Monday, because the "day" block of time, has already accounted for that time in the payroll.
