Web-based? As in a site you go to that will check for infections? Or are you wanting a free virus protection program

If the second, I recommend very highly, Microsoft Security Essentials.
It's free and very, very good. Independent sites rank it above AVG, McAfee, etc.
And, ugh. What an awful 48 hours and a crappy way to start the New Year. Hopefully things improve for you.
