In response to "as always, the answer is . . . it depends" by true pix

if I may ... I get this question all the time from clients that are renting a hall for a wedding or other event and need insurance.

often times - your home policy or if you don't own a home - you can buy renter's insurance that covers your stuff - very inexpensive - and it includes liability coverage - just like a home policy - and often times that liabiltiy will extend to cover your renting a place for an event - as always - you have to call your agent and make sure - but it's a nice perk. I always also recommend hiring someone to serve any alcohol at the event - it just provides one more layer between you and being sued for over serving someone that leaves your event and has an accident involving a fatality ... either them or someone they hit.
