the stay in school strategy hasn't worked for Pac10 QBs recently.
When's the deadline to declare?

There are labor issues to consider that make this one trickier.

not really. the change is coming regardless. He's #1 now with either Bradford $$ or he's #1 with whatever new system is in place.

The draft is just the opening of the door, dude. He's thinking about his whole career. -- nm

Still a bad gamble. With the injury risk that's omnipresent in football, risking huge money now for a future that may never come to pass is silly.

Where did Sam Bradford go in the draft? Remember that he had the worst injury possible for a QB. -- nm

Yep #1...there's no doubt. You can't climb higher, why in the hell would you potentailly leave 10s of millions on the table -- nm

I mean, great for Stanford fans and all (I'm glad Leinart stayed his senior year, as a fan), but that's just a head scratching move.

There's no way the rookies don't get shafted in the new CBA. -- nm

Even more reason to leave now, before a rookie sal cap is instituted. (nm)

There's ZERO way you end up getting a better deal. Worse case, it changes, it's going to change for 2011 or 2012 so it's moot.

what QB would be taken ahead of him even if he comes out next year? -- nm

You don't know. Maybe Matt Barklet finally learns to stop forcing passes. Maybe Ryan Mallet learns to make better reads.

If it changes, it will change for this draft. -- nm

Then he's in the same boat in 2011 or 2012. So all he's risking is not being #1.

What he's doing is improving his odds of being a fully developed player when he enters the league rather than risk sitting on his hands for 8 months. -- nm

Or the next hot prospect getting hyped past him.

He is but based on what happened with Bradford, the injury thing isn't a dealbreaker.

I don't see how you see the labor situation changing anything in *favor* of staying in school.

If he doesn't practice, he'll be terrible in the NFL the first year.

he's not playing before September 1st anyhow in any league.

exactly, rookies get served with every new deal. So the sooner the better business wise -- nm
