I've failed to find a clear answer on this. I believe canceling older cards can hurt you (because average age of credit drops)

But if you cancel a card that's at or below your average age of credit I don'd understand why that would hurt. (Note: I'm not saying it won't hurt, I just can't imagine any logical reason it would hurt instead of help, since you are lowering your total outstanding available debt)
