Does anyone know if Acrylic performs worse or better than Cotton when it comes to water absorption? -- nm

Cotton tends to soak it up, gets very havy and takes forever to dry.

Go with jacket #2, definitely. Hell, I would freeze out on the sound in July, it's so friggin cold. The water temp rarely gets above 55.
