Extra features are something the industry is overly fixated on, they don't have near the impact postive or negative they think they do

I've never heard anyone in the dvd or hd environment actually give a crap about them. Nice if it's there, who cares if it isn't.
As to why people aren't upgrading their existing collections, it's always overlooked that people did not upgrade their existing collection to dvd either, because they didn't have one. VHS was always 90% priced to rent, meaning the tapes cost $75-$99 each. This is the only reason they actually got away with forcing a format with no backwards compatibility on consumers, consumers didn't have huge collections of VHS. HD is a different deal. The players all play DVDs and there isn't any expectation for people to run out and rebuy everything (not to mention, even if they wanted to, the titles are not all available in HD yet.)
