That reads like a breakup letter. But kudos to you on how you are handling things. You are right that a FB msg isn't as nice as a call, and you shouldn't respond. Forget about it for a few days and then accept the fact that you will only be friends.
For a while there I feared he might want you to be his "man in DC," but then he made it clear in his msg that he only wants to be friends.
