If the nurse indeed said "just a virus and a rash" then he/she is wrong. Nurses don't diagnose.

"Experts in emergency medicine often define urgency using certain terms. They say to advise the person in charge that you think the patient has an "emergency medical condition that should be evaluated right away.""
I really don't know how far that line will get you since tons of people use it. However, asking for the charge nurse could be beneficial.
