LYC: This is what my half Chinese half Vietnamese shrink friend had to say about it, and then she sent me this link.

"WOW! it's a little outrageous and arrogant but with a little bit of truth. yes, my mom did raise me a lot like this. and i AM successful. and i agree that a lot of westernized/american parents are too lenient on their kids. but i have also been faced with depression and anxiety and struggle with perfectionism most of my life, and i also have a very conflictual relationship with my mom too."

There are some embellishments in the WSJ piece which Western readers are probably missing (e.g. the headline). And spot on about some but not all Chinese mothers. (www.theatlantic.com)
